The Ins and Outs of Door Repair in Toronto
Latest Roofing News RoofingUnlike many other parts of their home, most Toronto homeowners will not have to worry about repairing their entry doors very often. Many of the post-war bungalows located across the city still use the original doors installed 60 years ago.
While it’s admirable that we live in homes that are “built to last”, at least some of those homeowners might actually need to have their doors repaired, but not realize it.
The door repairs you need depend on the nature of the problem. There are four main reasons why you might need to repair or replace the main entry doors of your home:
Old Doors
Yes, it’s nice to get 60 years of use from your doors, but when that means ongoing repairs, or too much deterioration and rot in the doors and door frames, it might be time to finally install some new doors
Emergency Door Repairs
If your home was broken into through your doors, or you suffered some other incident that damaged your doors, repairs can save you money over replacing the entire door, but make sure you talk to a professional door installer and/or locksmith. There is usually far more damage than meets the eye, including to the door frame, locks and door accessories, and a professional knows how to find it all.
Poorly Insulated Doors
Doors don’t just let in your family and friends, but, if they are not properly insulated and/or fitted, they will let in all the heat, cold, noise and pollution from the outside too. Repairs to the frame, how the door is hung and the insulation around the frame can help. If a door has large gaps between it and the frame because it is warped, it’s best to replace it.
Not Working Properly
Do you have to hang on to the door handle and pull with all your might to get the door to close properly? The repair might be as simple as adjusting of fixing the door hinges, or it could mean you need a new door.
Sometimes door repairs seem simple. But experienced do-it-yourselfers will tell you that they rarely are. More than most home repairs, this one is best handled by a professional.
