Rubber Roof Repair

Rubber roofing is one of the most durable types of roofing systems available. With that being said, they often times are much more difficult to repair than other types of roofing. You will need a long list of tools, time, plus special supplies to complete the job. Here are some reasons you may want to simply go ahead and consider a professional repair to fix a hole or leak in a rubber roofing system:

Tools and Supplies

You will need lots of different tools and supplies to complete this job, some of which are only available through people who deal with roofing supplies. Tools and supplies needed include a broom, gloves, measuring tape, rubbing alcohol, a utility knife, sealant caulk and a caulking gun, silicone hand rolling tool, a probe tool, EPDM rubber adhesive and seam tape, chalk, replacement substrate, and rubber-to-rubber cement. If you cannot find any one of these items, do not substitute. If you do you may actually make the problem worse.

Danger

Some products used in the repair of rubber roofing may require the use of a respirator, and sometimes repairs must be done on hot days, or you may not be able to find a partner to help you. If you do not have access to a respirator, and wish to apply a product like roofing tar, don’t. You may just end up in the hospital. Working on hot days on a roof is always a bad idea, and can result in dehydration, sunburn, or, worse, heatstroke. To complete a roofing job you should always have someone close-by who can assist you or call for help, just in case something goes wrong. If you can’t find anyone else to help you, your best bet is to call in a professional to let them do the job.
